Best Inflatable Stand Up Paddle boards under $500

Best Inflatable Stand Up Paddle boards under $500

Stand paddle boarding is fast becoming the front runner in the water sports arena. There’s an abundance in the variety that comes in different sizes, shapes and functions. Not only that, SUP paddleboards can be classified into price categories. They can be classified as:

  • Low-range boards - Boards under $500
  • Mid-range boards - Boards $500-$1000
  • High-end boards -  Boards $1000-$1500
  • Pro-boards - $1500 and up

What are the factors that attribute the wide range of price in paddle boards?

This will be the likely question that will pop-out in everyone’s mind. Why such a huge difference of prices in these boards whether they are solid or inflatable boards?

SUP prices are based on the following attributes:

Size of the board - It makes sense that the bigger the board, the more time to produce it, more materials to be used and the more designs are more detailed.

Type of the board - Each boards have their own special functions. Each function demand certain specifications that need to be met.

Brand - More popular brands can demand more than lesser-known ones in the market.

Quality of the board - The higher the quality, the more expensive it costs. There are materials that can cost more if the board is lightweight and can also boost a good performance. The use of more advanced technology can add to the expenses of producing these boards.

On top of the product add-ons - These are add-ons to complete the SUP package. These accessories can also cost more because of their special features and high-caliber quality. Examples are: top of the line adjustable paddle made from very materials, backpacks, and carrying bags, fin system, leash, and more reliable pumps for the inflatables. Some paddle boards have more accessories that come with them like: phone holder, camera mount, roof rack, and some has vests included.

Customized boards will also tend to cost very high since it will be designed and made under a client’s strict specifications and guidelines.

As they also say, there are boards that belong to the low-range price bracket and yet they can be considered very good ones. The reason could be that they are produced by large companies that make bulk production thus can sell them lower.

Don’t just buy an inflatable paddle board because it has a lot of add-ons!

Accessories can be pricey, but one of the worst things you can do is buy a board that bows or isn’t suitable for your type of activity. Although most shoppers for this guide are casual paddlers, we still want to be on the lookout for quality boards.

So how should you pick the best inflatable paddle board under 500?

Aside from the look, functions, features and price, you should purchase a paddle board that could support your weight. Always take a look at the maximum weight capacity of the board.

Next check how thick the board is. It’s quite important since your weight when standing up on a paddle board can cause the board to bend in the middle. When the board tends to bend in the middle, it would be incredibly hard to paddle. A board should be 6” thick especially for heavier paddlers from 250 lbs. The paddle board should also be long and wide enough for you. 10' to 10' 6? long and 30? to 32? wide is a standard board. If you’ve had trouble balancing from previous paddling experience or want a board that is as stable as possible, buy a wide board that is 32? or greater in width.

A lengthy and wider board is most applicable to fishing enthusiasts who needs more for a lot of gear, yoga practitioners that needs to use more deck space, and for the taller individuals that want to sleep or lie down on top of their board.

Lastly, you can also consider the accessories that complete the package. You can compare what the SUP package consists of and you might consider purchasing the one with the most complete line-up. The type and class of the innovative accessories can help you to decide too.

With all these covered, you can pick a SUP board that looks cool, has perfect features and fits you well.

You will for sure find a board that’s right for your weight and which is suited for the type of activity or activities you plan to take on.

Here’s the list of the Best SUP paddle boards under $500 with reviews:

Do inflatable paddle boards pop?

An inflatable is said to be more durable than any solid board. It’s indestructible being made of high grade PVC material and with advance drop stitch construction technology.

Although inflatables are not subject to the normal dings, cracks, and scratches that epoxy boards are, they should still be cared for. Yes, they can take a lot of beating and can withstand more but they should still be treasured.  It’s proven that it takes a lot to really damage an inflatable SUP. Nevertheless, they can still pop if one is not aware on how to avoid this scenario.

How to avoid popping your inflatable paddle board

When strapping your board on top of your car, make sure it’s not tied down too tight. This can cause bulges and lead to popping.

When you carry your board in and out of the water, don’t drag it over gravel, rocks, debris or even sand.

Avoid dropping your inflatable. A serious drop can lead to a crack your board. If there’s a crack, water can go through your board.

The sun, rain and wind will take a huge toll on your iSUP if they’re exposed too much when not in use and don’t take a chance on this.

Always clean and rinse your board after use. This is even more so if you paddled in saltwater. This is to prevent a salty crust from forming. By just simply hosing down on your iSUP, it will wash away the mildew and bacteria from perpetuating your board. Don’t forget to thoroughly clean the board including the fin boxes, deck pad and slider neck.

Avoid your inflatable paddle board to be in contact with a sharp object like a nail.

Do not leave your board out in the sun while inflated for more than 24-48 hours.  The hot air temperature can cause the air pressure to increase thus possibly it can pop the board.

Do not over inflate.

When storing for longer periods of time we recommend that you store your board deflated. Make sure it’s rinsed with fresh water, fully dry and it’s rolled just right and not too tight to prolong the life of the board. This will also keep the material as strong as possible.

One great thing about an inflatable paddle board is should there be a leak or it popped, it can still be repaired very easily and quite reliably. That’s is its strong point unlike an epoxy or solid board that when crashed into a rock it could easily get dinged or dented. An epoxy paddle board could break when dropped on a cemented flooring. But an inflatable paddle board might be dropped from a building to a cemented floor but it will come out undamaged!
