Best Non Inflatable Paddle Boards For Sale

There are various kinds of non-inflatable paddle boards. They can be mainly classified in three categories mainly from the way they are made of and constructed. They are epoxy, plastic, and carbon. All have their own strengths and weaknesses.

EPOXY - Solid boards mainly have three basic ingredients: a foam core, resin, and fiberglass. The most commonly used resin is epoxy. The traditional boards are usually epoxy fiberglass wherein the EPS foam cores are covered with multi-layer of fiberglass and epoxy resin to prevent dings. Wood spine could be added too for reinforcement to make it stronger and stiffer.

The epoxy board usually weighs around 25-30 lbs.

Pros:

  • Epoxy boards are faster and smoother
  • Better gliding, tracking, and control functions
  • They can have a surf-style keel for stability and more general paddling,
  • Has a more pointed displacement keel for cutting through waves for faster paddling
  • better steering
  • Their displacement hulls are higher in performance and it requires less effort to paddle, hence making them the ideal choice for SUP racers and faster navigation
  • Generally more stable
  • Has many dimensions available
  • Good for: SUP surfing, and racing, and long-distance paddling and journeys

Cons:

  • Harder to store and transport.
  • Less durable as they can be dinged and cracked
  • Cost is higher
  • Will likely perform better than plastic but still not quite as well as carbon SUP boards.

PLASTIC - They have a hard thermoplastic molded shell around a foam core or a hollow core. Definitely heavier and their performance is not tops but they are easier on the pocket. Some might be molded PE but they tend to be heavier and have a longer life span.

Pros:

  • Highly durable
  • Very affordable
  • Popular in camps and rentals
  • Great for young paddlers
  • Ding and scratch resistant

Cons

  • Heavier
  • Hard to transport
  • Less performance oriented
  • Harder to maneuver
  • Not very attractive

CARBON - Considered as the highest-performing board available. They are lightweight and have the flex patterns desired. The main focus of this board is the performance especially in terms of gliding and easy maneuvering. These boards are very vulnerable and cannot really boast about its sturdiness.

Carbon takes the most percentage of the component in these boards hence the less usage of epoxy and fiberglass. That’s the formula for this board to be lesser weight.  Paddle boards made from carbon are the most-pricey SUP board one can buy.

There are some options available in the market. Instead of using carbon, some manufacturers use wood inlays, bamboo, and the likes to help makes the boards lighter and more efficient in performance.

The only thing is, they can be expensive too.

Pros:

  • Very good performance
  • Faster and more responsive
  • Greater maneuverability
  • They don’t flex much
  • Very rigid and stiff

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Might be prone to dings and scratches
  • Delicate
  • Harder to repair
