What is the coronavirus vaccine?
There is no such thing as a coronavirus vaccine—at least not yet. But organizations have been working hard in order to launch a vaccine at the soonest possible time. However, the soonest time will take more than a year.
Usually, vaccines could take around five years to finish. It is a lengthy process creating a vaccine. There will be a lot of research involved and there will be animal and human testing. The testing would take a long time because it involves the safety of people. As such, the government would have to be involved. Once testing proves to be successful, permits for commercial distribution have to be acquired.
However, there is a consensus that a coronavirus vaccine is needed ASAP! The novel coronavirus or COVID-19 has already taken the lives of around 4,300 people around the world. Close to 120,000 people have contracted the virus worldwide. It has become a pandemic and so hastening the development of a vaccine is quite justified.
In a White House meeting in March, over 10 biotech companies shared their expertise on the launching of a coronavirus vaccine. At least one company has already produced a candidate vaccine and has since submitted it to the government for testing. Eighteen months was the best that experts could say that a vaccine would be ready. But of course, you have to take into account if the vaccine will actually work.
